Stacey & Michael | A Vintage Windsor wedding cinematography film

October 9th, 2010

A stylish, vintage inspired wedding at Hellenic Hall in Windsor, Ontario

Stacey and Michael are a super-stylish couple from Windsor, Ontario. Their taste in music, fashion and their sense of style really shone through in the various details of their wedding day.

The weather was perfect, as we packed up and prepared to spend the day with Stacey and Michael. Brian spent the morning with the groom and the guys while I headed over to film Stacey and the bridesmaids. Stacey and the girls were getting ready at the couples’ newly purchased house. The purple living room wall and beautiful window light made for some terrific footage of the bride.

Their traditional Greek ceremony was held at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Windsor, Ontario. Afterward, we followed along with wedding photographer Eryn Shea and the couple, to Willistead Manor for a creative photo shoot.

We then headed over to the Hellenic Banquet Hall to spend the evening celebrating with Stacey, Michael and all their friends and family. There, we enjoyed a terrific dinner and got a little nostalgic over some classic 80′s tunes!

Thanks for having us along on your wedding day, Stacey and Michael! We hope that you love your videos!

Allison &Brian | A Windsor, Ontario wedding film

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

This particular wedding holds a great deal of special personal meaning to me

I’ve known Brian and Allison for many years. We’re all originally from Windsor, Ontario and we went to the same high school together. During our days attending Vincent Massey Secondary School, I saw these two meet and witnessed their relationship grow. So when they contacted me about filming their wedding, I knew it’d be a special experience.

Allison and Brian now live out of town, so preparations were done at their respective parents’ homes. Brian Hansen filmed Allison and the girls, and I headed out to spend the morning with Brian and the guys. After getting ready, the guys went out for a little road hockey and a game of pool.

The beautiful ceremony took place at the historic Mackenzie Hall in Sandwich town. There, Brian and Allison exchanged some very sweet, personal vows and officially began a new chapter of their lives.

After the ceremony, we followed along with their photographer Tracie, from Focal Point Photography for a creative photo session. We toured around the grounds of Mackenzie Hall and took a trip down to the parks along the Detroit River. (On a side note… if you’re from the Detroit area or southeastern Michigan, you must come over to Windsor to take in the beautiful skyline of Detroit from Windsor’s perspective!) The girls braved the November cold, and we caught some beautiful footage!

The reception was held at a beautifully decorated Ciociaro Club. Guests dined, danced and enjoyed the Perfect Shutter Photo Booth. For me, it was a great time seeing some familiar faces from high school, too. It was really a special, personal experience being a part of the wedding day of a couple of old friends.

Allison and Brian, thanks so much for having us along on the most important day of your lives. It really was an honour and a pleasure being part of it all. Wishing you all the love and happiness in life…

Daniela & Joe | A Fusion Wedding Film at the Rockway Glen Golf Course and Estate Winery

October 10th, 2010

Introducing this special “Fusion” wedding film

…featuring Daniela and Joe. They’re a terrific couple originally from the Niagara region. We were introduced to Daniela and Joe by their photographer Jayme Morrison. Jayme’s a close friend of ours, and by incorporating her amazing imagery with our cinematography, we’ve put together this unique Fusion Wedding Film.

On the day of the wedding, we packed up our gear and hit the 401 on our way to Stoney Creek, Ontario. Brian and I split up to film the girls at Daniela’s home, and the guys at Joe’s place nearby. We then took a beautiful, scenic drive out to Lincoln, Ontario for the ceremony and reception being held at held at Rockway Glen Golf Course and Estate Winery. Driving through the winding, tree-lined roads of the Niagara Region was simply beautiful. Daniela and Joe exchanged heartwarming vows in an intimate outdoor ceremony.

After the ceremony, we followed along with Jayme and the couple for a creative photo session. The sun was just setting on the winery, making for some perfect photos and video. We then shared the evening with all their family and friends at the reception, where there was lots of dancing, food and even some singing guests!

Daniela and Joe… it was a pleasure meeting you two, and spending your big day with you. We had a blast celebrating with you in beautiful Niagara. We hope that you love how we’ve captured your day!

Denise & Jeremy | A Windsor Wedding Film | Inspired by Ann Arbor and University of Michigan

September 11th, 2010

Our latest Wedding Highlight Reel features Denise and Jeremy, who exchanged vows in the town of Amherstburg, Ontario.

You may actually recognize Jeremy from one of our previous videos; the Windsor wedding of Jen and Adam. Jeremy was one of Adam’s groomsmen, back in July. Now, the roles are switched and it’s Jeremy’s turn to wed the love of his life, Denise.

In the morning, we captured the bridal party preparations and the couple’s gift exchange. We then boarded the limo bus to attend the ceremony at St. John the Baptist Church in Amherstburg, ON. Afterward, we followed along with photographer Julie Welch-Rhodes , to a number of locations across town. Their creative photo-session involved trips to their old high-school, Navy Yard Park and even a couple plays on the football gridiron. Everybody then headed to the Fogular Furlan Club in Windsor to celebrate with Denise and Jeremy, and dance the night away.

Being big Michigan Wolverines fans, unfortunately we couldn’t make it out to Ann Arbor for the wedding. Instead, hints of their Michigan football passion were sprinkled throughout the day — Go Blue! –, Denise and Jeremy’s wedding was a light-hearted, fun and loving occasion. Thanks so much for choosing Perfect Shutter! We wish you all the best, and hope that you love your videos.

Sonia & Steven | A Leamington, Ontario wedding film at the Roma Club

August 21st, 2010

A little bit of rain couldn’t put a damper on the beautiful wedding day of Sonia and Steven. So, on August 21st, we packed up the filming gear and headed to the town of Leamington, Ontario about 45km south of Windsor, Ontario to capture their special day. I picked up our special-guest-shooter for the day, Jana Kendrick, and we were off to capture a love story.

Despite spending my whole life here in Windsor, I’ve never really ventured out into Essex County very much. With the GPS leading the way, we filmed the ladies preparing at home in Leamington, then met with the groom and the men at the Seacliffe Inn. The ceremony was held at St. John The Evangelist and the reception was at the Roma Club. It was my first time to either location. A new venue is always different and interesting to shoot!

The reception was a great time. A live band kept everyone busy on the dancefloor. There was so much happiness and laughter throughout the whole night, and I think the video is a good reflection of that.

Congratulations to Sonia and Steve! We thank you for choosing Perfect Shutter. Hope you love the videos!

Presenting, a beautiful wedding film for Jen and Adam in a town just outside of Windsor, Ontario in Amherstburg. Love, mansions, and a '52 Pontiac highlighted!

Jen & Adam | An Amherstburg, Ontario wedding film

Presenting, a beautiful wedding film for Jen and Adam in a town just outside of Windsor, Ontario in Amherstburg. I hadn’t visited Amherstburg in quite some time, so it was a treat to see the town and all its charm all over again.

A bustling downtown area along the shores of the Detroit River just before it emptied into Lake Erie, had so many quaint shops, I wish I had time to walk and stop in each of them! From old fashioned ice cream shops to even a quick sushi restaurant… it had so much charm.

Jen and Adam’s photographer, Stacey Paquette, had some surprises for them for their photo shoot. After the ceremony we were led to the grounds of an old mansion built in the early 1800’s that has since been abandoned. It stood there calm and overlooking the water, once the home of a famous landscape painter and equally as beautiful as the entire day had been for Jen and Adam.

Recently, our bride and groom had yet another occasion to celebrate: after four years of long distance while Adam attended medical school in Missouri, he graduated, and just in time to finally start a wonderful life together with his wife Jen! Congratulations to you two, we are so happy for you.

Lina & Lambros | A Greek wedding film in Windsor, Ontario.

July 3rd, 2010

On a hot and steamy long weekend, our Detroit wedding videography team was invited to capture the wedding of Lina and Lambros. We crossed the border and traveled to Windsor, ON for this gorgeous wedding day, that incorporated both beautiful tradition and some very stylish detail.

We were awed by the traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony. The artwork and church itself was simply stunning. Next, we followed the wedding party down to Windsor’s Summerfest at the river front facing the Detroit River and Detroit skyline for a creative shoot at the carnival. Everyone was having tons of fun and we even attempted some rather daring shots from atop the ferris wheel. The reception was a big, beautiful affair at the Caboto Club full of touching speeches and plenty of dancing.

Congratulations Lina and Lambros! Thanks so much, from the Perfect Shutter wedding cinematography team.

Christine & Matt | Windsor and Detroit wedding video at the Dearborn Inn.

Their wedding story together began in childhood,

and they really have journeyed together to reach this point. Developing through their childhood, into adulthood, staring challenges directly in the eye, and conquering those challenges together had really strengthened their love for each other. The experiences they’ve faced together has really made them inseparable.

Christine mentioned that some of her favourite wedding videos she’d seen from others was when there was audio overlaid into the video. Seeing Christine and Matt interact with each other, how they joked and laughed together, we just knew we would be in for some beautiful speeches. Speeches that would leave not a single dry eye amongst the large gathering of friends and family, many whom traveled from all corners of the Earth to witness the union and marriage of Christine and Matt.

Matt’s speech for Christine was one of the most touching, original, genuine and eloquent speech that we’ve ever heard. It took a lot of composure, and love, to deliver his speech from the bottom of his heart. There really is no way we could describe the beauty of his words for her. You’ll just have to listen for yourself.

We would like to thank the Curtis and Hanna family for all their hospitality.

Congratulations once again, Christine and Matthew!

Some of our own personal favourite moments from this wedding:

The totally kickin’ Jeep cufflinks and cake for Matt, Christine’s surprise song at the wedding reception, the jazz band playing some great dance tunes, discovering a gorgeously restored vintage jeep perfect for photo and video opportunities, breath-taking sunsets.

The ceremony was held in Windsor, Ontario. For the reception, all several hundred of the guests, family, and friends crossed the international borders to celebrate in Dearborn, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, Michigan.
Our very own, John, sat down with Everything Wedding and talked a bit about our wedding cinematography production here in Windsor, Ontario.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

What makes (you) different from the crowd?

The creative storytelling approach that we take to producing our videos is what really sets us apart. Our shooting and editing style is very unique to what we do.

We don’t just run the cameras and record what happens. We work hard to seek out and capture those perfect moments and details that reflect the couple’s personality and the day’s events. Then, with clean and natural editing, we select and sequence our shots to truly tell a beautiful story.

How important is it to be provided with all the RAW footage with my wedding video?

This is an important question that brides face when trying to choose someone for wedding videography. There are some wedding videographers that will provide all your RAW, unedited footage to you on the DVD, while many others would not.

There are two main schools of thought on whether you should be given unedited footage or not. They stem mainly from the wedding videographer themself, and the style that they like to film.

A wedding videographer filming ‘documentary’ style may provide you with all their unedited footage. Their style of filming is based on filming everything from Point A in time to the end, Point B. They may not do much editing for your video and instead choose to provide you with the many hours of footage as their final product.

Wedding cinematography

The videographer who films cinematic style wedding films (‘wedding cinematography’) may choose not to give you the unedited RAW footage. They opt to take a creative, story-telling approach when filming your wedding day. The main goal is to produce a fully-edited, short film that will show off your wedding day to the viewer and evoke powerful emotions such as joy and happiness. Much like a Hollywood producer filming a drama movie, in wedding cinematography there are certain details throughout the day that are captured onto film to help tell your story and to build up the ‘plot’.

In cinematic wedding videography, the little moments are thoughtfully filmed with an intent to be edited at certain points in your wedding video to tell the story to the viewer. These moments may include scenes such as all the workers diligently setting up your reception hall, or a close up scene of the groom nervously tapping his feet while he awaits his bride, or your mother taking a second to adjust your veil before you walk the aisle.

Without any editing, these scenes, which could be up to over 10 hours of ‘unedited’ footage, would just appear to be an assortment of random events that carry very little meaning. If you were to see the unedited footage without seeing the final, edited wedding video, you may even be disappointed and think you wasted your money on a wedding videographer that spent so much time on seemingly unimportant footage!

But the beauty truly lies after the editing process, when the collection of the scenes are interwoven with each other to become your final wedding video. The wedding cinematographer often will spend up to 40 hours carefully choosing the scenes and fitting them, like pieces of a puzzle, into your wedding video. In the end, the assortment of footage becomes connected to tell a beautiful story — one that you would watch not just once, but over and over — much like your favourite movie.

‘Actual’ vs ‘Perceived’ Value

There are a few questions you should ask yourself when you are trying to pick out wedding videography and if you really need the RAW, unedited footage. They pertain mostly to ‘actual’ and ‘perceived’ value and which is more imporatant to you.

If you favor the ‘documentary’ style of wedding videography, and absolutely need 10 hours of continuous, unedited video of your wedding day, then you should ask for the RAW footage so you can maximize the ‘perceived’ value of your investment — the perception here that the value is getting the most number of bottom-line hours of footage you end up with.

If the thought of sitting through and watching 10 hours of your wedding video, more than just on one occasion, makes you cringe, then you may not need the RAW footage and opt to hire a wedding cinematographer. This is where you would favor the ‘actual” value. You’ll end up with less hours of wedding video footage but the final wedding video, whether 5 minutes, or 25 minutes long, of edited footage may show off your wedding day in a much more polished, creative, emotion-provoking, and beautiful way than the 10 hours of unedited footage.
